🚨 Iran. New defense minister to the US president: drop one bomb and see how many of your men you pick up.
Mehrdad Akhlaqi was approved today after decades in the regime’s missile and aerospace industries. Pezeshkian says he worked with Fakhrizadeh, the scientist who ran the nuclear program and was assassinated in 2020. He is already under US and UN sanctions.
The first thing he offered was the threat.

🇺🇲 Trump tells a Nebraska crowd Iran could "take out" Los Angeles and San Diego as a "small price to pay," then puts the war's end "a little after the election, maybe a little before"
Trump used a Monday night midterm rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, to argue that high fuel prices are worth the cost of the Iran war, and then reached for two American cities. "It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe," he said. "They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay and it's going to be over with very soon." The crowd laughed and cheered.
Trump went on: "It's essentially almost over with and they might keep going a little long." Earlier in the same speech he said the war would end "very soon, maybe a little after the election, maybe a little before that." On the same stage he signed an executive order opening off-road dyed diesel to highway use and deferring the federal tax on it through Dec. 31.
California's leaders answered overnight and into Tuesday. Gov. Gavin Newsom called the president "deranged and dangerous," and the BBC reported he directed the State Threat Assessment Center to monitor the situation in case foreign actors read the remarks as an invitation to target the state. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass said the comments "are dangerous and could potentially compromise our safety." San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria wrote: "We are not expendable." Axios, citing a 2025 local military council report, said the city's bases employ more than 136,000 active-duty personnel and civilians.
The White House says the president was misread. Communications Director Steven Cheung called the reaction a "media freakout" that is "not rooted in reality," writing that Trump "was clearly stating U.S. cities would have been threatened if a nuclear Iran hadn't been stopped." The White House rapid response account said the U.S. is fighting "to STOP Iran from having the ability to take out LA and San Diego with a nuclear weapon," and called Los Angeles Times reporters "buffoons,". Axios noted that his meandering phrasing left the line open to both readings.
For Americans, the more lasting line may be the timetable. Four weeks from the Nov. 3 midterms, the president is now describing the end of the war in campaign terms, while his national security team weighs options and the U.S. blockade of Iranian shipping continues.
Tehran is reading the calendar too. Iran's armed forces chief Ali Abdollahi said Monday that Iran would respond to any new U.S. strike regardless of whether it came before or after the congressional elections, according to Iran International. On Tuesday, Iranian lawmaker Hassan Ghashghavi said Washington appeared to be under pressure ahead of its elections. Trump said Monday he remains open to direct talks.
